- ➤ Little Donkey, a new restaurant serving Mexican and Southern Soul food, opened its doors Wednesday on North Perry Street across from the Legacy Museum as part of the Equal Justice Initiative's effort to boost dining options near Legacy Plaza—EJI built the space to help develop the area downtown. - ➤ Alabama Chief Justice Sarah Stewart appointed retired judge Tom Young under the Speedy Trial Act to manage the capital murder case against Ibraheem Yazeed, who is accused of killing college student Aniah Blanchard in 2019. WAKA 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery Public Schools will offer summer meals for children under 18 from June 9 through July 3 at local schools. Meals will be served on site only (+no pick‐up for absent children+) and the program is open to all (+even if they are not MPS students+). WSFA 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery area leaders met on Wednesday to talk about crime in the Capital City with officials including Police Chief Jim Graboys, County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham, District Attorney Azzie Oliver, and ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor. The meeting, part of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s Around the Table Series, highlighted the new Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit—which was set up on June 24 and has already served over 900 arrest warrants, seized 257 guns, and taken away 164 machine gun conversion devices. - ➤ The Montgomery County Commission and Montgomery Whitewater will host a plaque dedication ceremony honoring late Chairman Elton Dean on Friday, June 6 at 9:00 a.m. at Montgomery Whitewater on Maxwell Boulevard to recognize his leadership in creating the outdoor destination. Montgomery Chamber
- ➤ Montgomery City Council approved a moratorium that stops new permits for package stores, gas stations, and vape shops. The decision comes after more than two years of concerns raised by the fine arts museum board—leading officials to review future permit applications. WSFA 12

Tommy Tuberville raised over $3 million in his first week after announcing his bid to be governor, with most donations coming from Alabama and some from New Jersey, South Carolina, Montana, and Virginia.
