CRIME NEWS

  • A man was fatally shot on Sunday evening on the 1100 block of Bragg Street near Washington Park and was pronounced dead at Baptist Medical Center South after police and medics responded at 5:21 p.m.—Montgomery police have not released his name and are asking anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers.  WAKA 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Josh Pendergrass, an attorney and former communications director for Gov. Kay Ivey from Prattville, announced his run for state auditor to bring more openness and protect taxpayer dollars. He said he will cut waste and restore trust in government—offering a new choice as current auditor Andrew Sorrell runs for Secretary of State.  Alabama Daily News
  • Capitol Journal reported a Washington budget battle that could affect Alabama’s funding and renewed efforts to cut recidivism statewide. Weather experts also warned that hurricane season is now officially here—potentially bringing strong storms.  Alabama Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Officials from Auburn University and Alabama University said the NCAA settlement will let colleges start paying student athletes, as the deal allows each school to share up to $20.5 million with current athletes this year and up to $2.7 billion with former athletes over the next decade — a measure that comes nearly five years after Grant House filed his lawsuit.  WSFA 12
