- ➤ Spencer Thomas, a 57-year-old suspect from Prattville, was arrested on May 27 in Las Vegas for his role in the armed robbery and assault of dry-cleaning businessman Jim Massey III on March 10 — he now faces federal charges. WSFA 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The 36th annual Kids Count Data Book (tracking data through 2023) shows that Alabama fell to 43rd in child well-being as education scores dropped and more kids lost health insurance (4% up from 3%), while small gains were seen in family and community measures, prompting calls for more investments in health care and affordable housing. - ➤ Katherine Robertson, chief counsel for the current attorney general, will announce her bid to run for state AG today in Birmingham—she joins other candidates in a race that includes former Associate Justice Jay Mitchell and district attorney Pamela Casey with the primaries set for May 19. Dale Strong questioned Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on federal policies affecting Alabama’s biotech, automotive and agricultural sectors — they cited the loss of a $44 million grant for the Birmingham Biotechnology Hub and pressed for support of domestic manufacturing and fair credit terms for auto exports.
