CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery Police Chief Jim Graboys briefed the public on Monday morning about multiple shootings that occurred in the city since Friday. WSFA 12
- ➤ The annual CrimeStoppers gun buyback event returns to Montgomery on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at *Bryant Missionary Baptist Church* where participants can receive cash for unloaded firearms turned in for destruction to help fight gun violence. WSFA 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The state sales tax on most groceries will drop to 2% starting Sept. 1, cutting the Education Trust Fund by about $122 million. Lawmakers and the governor will decide on any further reductions—if the economy improves. Alabama Daily News
- ➤ Fifteen community members completed an eight-week Citizens’ Police Academy course and are now ready to help inform police about local neighborhood concerns. Chief Jim Graboys said the program—offered three times a year since 2006—provides critical insight that strengthens police response during incidents. WSFA 12

- ➤ Montgomery Whitewater invites racers 13 and up to take part in the Run Paddle Run, a race that starts with a 1.5-mile run, continues with 2,200 feet of whitewater paddling in inflatable kayaks, and finishes with another 1.5-mile run—participants must check in at 8:15 a.m. before the 9:00 a.m. start on Saturday, July 19 at 1100 Maxwell Blvd. Montgomery Chamber
