COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Deaubrey Philson—who works at Hardee’s on Atlanta Highway—received a new bike after a kind stranger, Shane Woodard, noticed his four-mile walk to work and wanted to help ease his commute, and the two have since become friends.  WSFA 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Special agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation executed search warrants last Monday at CBD and vape shops in four cities (Troy, Enterprise, Wetumpka, and Clanton) after complaints of marijuana law violations, and the Attorney General’s Office will hold a press conference Friday at 9 a.m. to provide more information.  WSFA 12
  • Deputies in Montgomery arrested 18-year-old Jai Paige Mister and 26-year-old Amajay Nelson-Cox on first-degree kidnapping and assault charges after responding on June 16 to a call at the 1200 block of West South Boulevard where a woman suffered severe burns—court records say Mister watched the attack unfold as the suspect allegedly demanded money.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Shay Shelnutt from Trussville pre-filed Senate Bill 4 to require public school districts to allow students to leave campus for religious instruction when parents request it. The bill is a duplicate of one that cleared the Senate but stalled in the House—its return marks ongoing efforts ahead of the 2026 session in Montgomery.  Alabama Daily News
  • Leigh Gwathney’s six-year term as leader of the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles expires on Monday—officials have yet to compile the list of five candidates for Gov. Kay Ivey to choose from. Once the list is submitted, Ivey will have 10 days to select a new leader while Gwathney continues serving until a new appointment is made.  Alabama Daily News
  • ICE detained Ribvar Karimi at Etowah County Detention Center on Sunday morning and his wife Morgan said she is upset because they followed the rules on his K1 visa even though agents said he did not file for an adjustment of status—she has hired an immigration lawyer as he is set to be moved Tuesday and may appear before an immigration judge in two weeks while she is 31 weeks pregnant with their baby due in seven weeks.  AL.com
