COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Autauga Creek Improvement Committee said a Kayak Trail Fun Run will take place today—featuring a new portable kayak launch system that helps paddlers launch their kayaks. Organizers expect the system to provide easier creek access and enhance safety during the event.  WSFA 12

CRIME NEWS

  • A multi-agency operation carried out at 10 a.m. on Monday at several CBD specialty and vape shops—including one in Montgomery’s 6000 Block of Atlanta Highway—seized marijuana, drug paraphernalia and other illegal items after a nearly year-long investigation into plant-based materials with illegal THC levels, with no arrests made.  WAKA 8
  • On June 25, firefighters responded to an alarm at Whitfield United Methodist Church on Fisk Road + police found Derrick Starks inside who confessed to setting a fire that burned a window and a wall + he was arrested and charged with second-degree arson.  WAKA 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Red Bluff Bar at the Silos will host Grammy and multi-award winning artist PYNK BEARD on Saturday, July 19, with doors opening at 1:00 p.m. and a live show beginning at 8:00 p.m.; the event will feature live music, food & drinks and include a VIP meet & greet at Bar Attico at 10 p.m.  Montgomery Chamber

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Troy University recognized new students who completed its IMPACT orientation and enrolled for Fall 2024 classes, with several local students from Montgomery among them. The university said it offers both traditional and online programs to meet student needs — a sign of its broad learning options.  Elmore Autauga News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New surveillance cameras are being installed throughout downtown Montgomery to boost public safety, and crews have been seen mounting them on poles near key areas such as Tallapoosa Street. The Montgomery Police Department will monitor the cameras 24/7 from its Strategic Technology and Resource Center.  WSFA 12
  • The City of Montgomery will host an Independence Day celebration on July 4th at Riverfront Amphitheater from 8:00pm–9:30pm.  WSFA 12
