ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, Montgomery Fire and Rescue fought two house fires in the 4600 Block of Ray Drive and the 4200 Block of Gateway drive, with no one injured at the Ray Drive home while a 55-year-old man sustained a minor cut at the Gateway drive fire. WSFA 12
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Central Alabama CrimeStoppers hosted a gun buyback event on June 29th + the program aimed to reduce gun violence and remove unwanted firearms from our streets. WSFA 12
- ➤ On Saturday morning, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers held a gun buyback event at Bryant Missionary Baptist Church on Norman Bridge Road where people turned in unwanted guns for cash ($50 for rifles or shotguns, $100 for handguns, and $200 for assault or semi-auto rifles) as organizers planned to destroy all the guns. - ➤ Alabama native Ace Atkins, a bestselling author who has written over 30 novels, will receive the 2026 Harper Lee Award from the Monroeville Literary Festival. The award ceremony will be held on February 27, 2026 at the Old Courthouse Museum (other notable authors will also be honored at the reception dinner). WSFA 12
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Local heating and air companies in Montgomery advise residents to maintain their cooling systems as hot and humid summer days push energy use 30 percent above the national average. They recommend changing air filters every 30 to 60 days and raising the thermostat when leaving home — steps that can help reduce electric bills. WSFA 12

- ➤ Alabama’s delegation honored the 65th anniversary of the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville with resolutions led by Rep. Dale Strong and Sen. Tommy Tuberville. - ➤ Legislative leaders sent Governor Kay Ivey five nominations for a new appointment to the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles, including board chair Leigh Gwathney—whose term expires today but allows her to stay in place until replaced amid a request from Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office.
