ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, a woman died when her car crashed on Interstate 85 in Montgomery County and four others were hurt, according to officials.  WSFA 12
  • A church on the 800 block of Clay Street in Montgomery was damaged by an early morning fire Tuesday — fire crews entered through the front door and fought the blaze from outside after part of the floor burned, and no injuries were reported.  WSFA 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Two people were taken to hospitals after separate shootings off Bell Road—one woman with a life-threatening gunshot wound and one man with a non-life-threatening injury—as police continue to investigate the incidents.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Alabama Shakespeare Festival opens its production of 'The Wizard of Oz' today on Festival Stage, running until Aug. 17 with kickoff events like a downtown green light display and a Ruby Slipper Sprint at Leroy Lounge. Trivia on July 24 and Alexis Kinney singing at the Biscuits game on July 30 add local excitement — the festival brings a classic story to life for our community.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Reed updated residents today on progress in public safety, road repairs and the reopening of community centers as part of a $50 million effort. He noted that crime rates fell significantly and city workers improved sidewalks and cleared litter to serve the community better.  Montgomery Chamber
  • Gov. Kay Ivey appointed corrections deputy Hal Nash as chairman of the state parole board on July 8th—replacing outgoing chair Leigh Gwathney—whose term expired; his appointment is effective immediately. Ivey said Nash will work to keep citizens safe with a tough-on-crime and fair law enforcement approach.  WAKA 8
