- ➤ Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the conviction of Tiffany Alexander Fields who pleaded guilty to stealing hydrocodone tablets from a local nursing home and was sentenced to 18 months in a community corrections program while surrendering her nursing license after an investigation by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. - ➤ Montgomery police are investigating a shooting on Thursday, July 10 at about 5:15 p.m. on the 700 block of Erskine Street near South Holt Street and Rosa Parks Avenue that injured a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound and a juvenile female treated at the scene—further details remain unknown. - ➤ Federal judges will hear on July 29 a request from Black voters and civil rights organizations to require a federal review of new congressional maps after a panel ruled that Alabama diluted Black voting strength—state officials, including the Attorney General and the Justice Department, oppose the move, saying the state did not show enough discrimination and is appealing the ruling. - ➤ The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs will hold an online auction of thousands of surplus items including boats, cars, trucks, office equipment+medical equipment and furniture from 7:30 a.m. today until 6 p.m. July 20. - ➤ It was announced yesterday that Alabama will receive $11.7 million from a nationwide opioid lawsuit settlement with eight drug companies—Attorney General Steve Marshall said the deal stops most companies from promoting opioids while allowing Indivior to continue selling treatment medications.
