CRIME NEWS

  • A former nursing home employee pleaded guilty to stealing more than 1,000 hydrocodone pills in Montgomery—he was convicted for the theft.  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery police are investigating multiple shootings from Saturday—even some that were deadly—as they work to gather evidence and determine any connections between the incidents.  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery law enforcement responded to shootings at multiple locations Saturday afternoon + reports came from Vaughn Road, Pike Road, Upper Wetumpka Road, California Street and Virginia Meadows with no confirmed connection among the incidents.  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery police responded around 8:13 p.m. Saturday on the 800 block of Ann Street, where they found an adult man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound who was taken to a local hospital and no suspects have been named.  WAKA 8
  • Two Montgomery men — 19-year-old Levouris D. Julius and 19-year-old Christopher O. Ruffin — were arrested during a July 9 traffic stop in Alabaster after police linked them to three retail theft incidents at a Walmart on Kelly Boulevard on June 19, June 27, and July 4, and they are held on a combined bond of $150,000.  WSFA 12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is hosting an online auction of surplus property—items include trucks, body armor and medical supplies—from Saturday, July 12 until Sunday, July 20. A public inspection will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 to Friday, July 18 at the Montgomery Distribution Center on Mobile Highway.  AL.com
  • Alabama families can save money on school items during the 20th annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, which will run from 12:01 a.m. on July 18 until midnight on July 20. During the holiday, select supplies, computers, clothing and more will be sold without the 4% state sales tax + over 300 local areas will also drop their local taxes.  Elmore Autauga News
