- ➤ On Saturday, a trooper tried to stop a motorcycle driver on Cobbs Ford Road in Prattville but when the chase reached Montgomery near Springfield Drive the 27 year old driver, Jacob Hutchinson, ran on foot and pulled a knife before officers fatally shot him & no officers were hurt as the State Bureau of Investigation now leads the case. - ➤ Montgomery police said a man was fatally struck by a car in West Montgomery Sunday evening near Day Street — Cortez Street just before 6:30 p.m. and his name has not been released. WAKA 8
- ➤ Montgomery police investigated several shootings on Saturday, along with a car overturn in front of a local bar and a heavy police presence near Upper Wetumpka Road—residents questioned community safety. WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery police responded to a Saturday night shooting near Highland Park on the 800 block of Ann Street where a man was injured by a non-life-threatening gunshot and taken to a nearby hospital (investigators are searching for clues). WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery police said they are asking for help finding a man who broke into several vehicles on Gunster Road in Lockwood Neighborhood between June 26 and 27—he stole cash and a cellphone. WSFA 12

- ➤ Alabama public schools had $68 million in federal funding frozen before the school year began—forcing districts like Tuscaloosa to change budgets and reduce programs—and state officials hope a review will quickly restore the money. Superintendent Eric Mackey said the pause affects funds for teacher salaries, English learners, and afterschool learning. Alabama Daily News
- ➤ Gov. Kay Ivey announced Friday that Alabama will add 58 new First Class Pre-K classrooms this fall, increasing the total to 1,528 for the 2025-26 school year. The expansion will give more four-year-olds quality early learning as the program keeps its top ranking for 19 years. Alabama Daily News
