ABC 33/40 chief meteorologist James Spann will launch his own channel, Alabama Weather Network, on August 11, which will air recorded programs on storm preparation and update forecasts every 20 minutes — he will also use a state-wide network of cameras and volunteer spotters during live weather events.

The Montgomery Zoo announced the hatching of four Caribbean flamingo chicks, the first in over 20 years, after animal care staff spent months transforming the aviary to create a suitable mud wallow — a clear sign of their commitment to proper flamingo nesting.
The chicks, named Kisba, Uyuni, Puddles and Pippi, hatched from June 4 through July 7 — and visitors can now see three of the chicks while Uyuni recovers at the veterinary clinic.
