BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cristy Andrews was named the new Local Partner in Charge—Growth at Warren Averett CPAs and Advisors' Montgomery office effective July 1, replacing Sandy Coaker. With over 20 years at the firm and leadership in the Tax Division and Real Estate Practice Group, Andrews will now guide the office into its next chapter.  Montgomery Chamber

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 25, Montgomery residents Christopher L. Franklin, 50, and Anita J. Brockman, 47, were arrested in Millbrook for theft and burglary after officers recovered stolen lawn equipment from a residence in the 100 block of Cedar Court—both face charges and are held in jail on a $42,000 bond.  WSFA 12
  • Billy Ray Marchman, serving a 99-year sentence for the 2004 murder of his wife, must continue his sentence after a 2024 parole denial and will have a new hearing on August 13—raising concerns among victims’ rights advocates.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Experience Montgomery has rebranded Restaurant Week as River Region Restaurant Week for its 11th year to spotlight local food and drink. The celebration features a summer bar trail running until August 3 and special lunch and dinner menus set to begin on August 7.  Montgomery Chamber

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Volunteers handed out over 500 backpacks with school supplies—refreshments and uniform shirts were given at a drive-through event outside 2nd Chance Auto Sales on Saturday. At the Cramton Bowl Multiplex, Montgomery’s Parks and Recreation Department hosted its annual Back to School Bash where more than 1,000 backpacks and family-friendly activities were provided.  WAKA 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery Emergency Communications Center is training 2 new dispatchers and 7 new operators today to support calls for emergencies such as car crashes and fires. All new hires must complete a rigorous 4—8-week training course before they take calls independently.  Montgomery Chamber
  • The Montgomery Police Department today named veteran law enforcement leader Chief Ettice Brickus as its new Chief of Staff. Brickus brings nearly 24 years of experience from Baltimore—she served as Deputy Chief—and will manage daily operations, policy, and community trust efforts.  Montgomery Chamber
