Foundation and local businesses to host a Back-to-School Bash on August 1. The event will offer community fun as students get ready for the new school term.

The Junior League of Montgomery is hosting a Community Grant Workshop to help local nonprofits access funding resources.

Local cell phone users in Montgomery reported service outages from major carriers (including T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, Boost Mobile, US Cellular, and Mint Mobile) Monday evening; service was restored after about an hour.

The Omega Iota Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. awarded seven scholarships to local students in Montgomery.

WSFA 12 News released the 2026-27 school start dates for central and south Alabama, with Montgomery County Schools beginning Monday, August 10 (a key date for local families) and other districts starting between August 5 and August 13.

Tuskegee University announced a new dress code that will take effect this August.

Alabama trucking industry and law enforcement reported major progress removing problem drivers from state roadways, with more than 900 operators suspended since last fall & a 20% drop in fatal truck crashes compared with last year; lawmakers recently passed legislation requiring English proficiency for truck drivers.

Jackson Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield are continuing to negotiate reimbursement rates at a bankruptcy court hearing today.

The hospital (with 1,800 employees) remains open as discussions on contract changes—including possible tax increases—continue, with the next hearing set for Aug. 25.
