- ➤ USA Today readers named Del Taco the best fast-food restaurant in the country, beating Chick-fil-A and honoring it for top fries. The chain's three Alabama locations in Huntsville, Opelika + Phenix City serve chicken queso loaded nachos, burritos, and a full breakfast menu. AL.com
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery Public Schools hosted the Back to School Bash to give students school supplies — including backpacks, paper and pencils — from across the district. WSFA 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Alabama Legislature passed bills that will lower the state sales tax on food from 3% to 2% and remove the tax on baby products starting Sept. 1, saving consumers an estimated $122 million and $13 million a year. Other laws passed this year will take effect later and will toughen penalties for shooting into occupied spaces, allow distilleries to offer guided tours, and change rules for prenatal care and smartphone content filters.
