- ➤ On Saturday, a 17-year-old Montgomery teen died when their vehicle left the roadway and overturned on Chilton County Road 16 — 2 miles north of Plantersville, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. WSFA 12

- ➤ On Aug. 2, a 17-year-old Montgomery teen driving a 2011 Nissan Altima left the roadway on Chilton County 16 two miles north of Plantersville and overturned down a steep embankment—he was not wearing a seat belt—and troopers are investigating the fatal crash. Elmore Autauga News

- ➤ Alabama schools will ban wireless devices during class this year under the FOCUS Act and administrators will impose punishments from warnings to in-school suspensions—superintendents noted that some districts already report fewer distractions—and the law includes a health exemption for students who need devices.
