  • Two Alabama TV stations, Huntsville’s WAAY and Montgomery’s WCOV, were sold by Allen Media Group to Gray Media in a 10-station deal valued at $171 million — FCC approval is pending and the sale will close in the fourth quarter.  AL.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Law enforcement worked the scene of a deadly double shooting on Woodley Road in Montgomery on Aug. 8 — officials said the investigation remains active.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southern Union State Community College is launching a cooking event called Fridays in the Kitchen focused on making pozole — the event will let community members learn traditional recipes firsthand.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Thursday’s Legislative Contract Review Committee meeting, Rep. Chris England questioned whether the state could cut the millions spent on prison lawsuits and urged the Attorney General’s office to offer a plan to stop the recurring cycle of litigation—he raised concerns over the continued use of attorney William Lunsford, who was previously sanctioned for fabricating case citations.  Alabama Daily News
