  • Faulkner University is preparing for its annual benefit dinner as President Dr. Mitch Henry said tickets are on sale — the report also covers that the University of Alabama introduced Crossing Point Programs for students and that a VA Gospel Concert took place on August 9. Reid State Technical College will open its campus with a career exploration day, a Charity Tennis Court Classic will be held on August 22, and Little Donkey’s chef presented a Pozole tasting event — each event highlighting different local opportunities.  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery Humane Society featured two pets on August 11—Burr, an 8-year-old cat known for his affection, and Bubba, a 2-year-old dog who is gentle with people. Both pets were highlighted for adoption at the humane society.  WAKA 8

CRIME NEWS

  • CrimeStoppers has offered a $5,000 reward for any tip that leads to the arrest of the suspect in the 2019 murder of 31-year-old Laquanda Parker—who was fatally shot at around 7:07 a.m. on March 11 on the 2800 block of Fairwest Street.  WAKA 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawyers for Gov. Kay Ivey asked a federal court to dismiss a lawsuit filed by former ADVA commissioner Kent Davis—who was terminated after an ethics complaint about mishandled funds. Maynard Nexsen attorneys argued that Davis’ claims for reinstatement or damages do not create federal jurisdiction.  Alabama Daily News
  • At the BCA Government Affairs Conference in Point Clear, state lawmakers and experts discussed how Alabama can boost energy production to meet growing demand for electricity.
