  • Montgomery’s Meals on Wheels delivered its five millionth meal to Don Tomlin (a six-year recipient) on Friday, August 15. The service, operating for over 50 years (with help from volunteers and donors), now delivers 450 meals daily to homebound seniors.  WAKA 8
  • Today the 30th annual Buckmasters Expo—one of the biggest hunting sales in the South—opens in Montgomery this afternoon. The event will offer a wide range of hunting equipment and supplies for local visitors.  WSFA 12
  • Today the National Society of Black Montgomery Professionals hosts a free Engineering Day at the park—an event where families learn about engineering and enjoy hands-on fun.  WSFA 12

  • Today, Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library hosts Montgomery's 2025 Library Fest — a free event where children of all ages can explore and enjoy activities at the library.  WSFA 12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, Alabama’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.0% in July from 3.2% in June, with 72,506 people seeking work—employment reached a record high of 2,311,434. Labor force participation dipped slightly to 57.9% from 58.0%, and prime-age worker rates dropped to 78.4%—the state added more than 28,000 new jobs in key sectors.  Alabama Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya visited UAB on August 14 at the request of Sen. Katie Britt to share his vision for fighting chronic diseases in Alabama. He said the NIH is using Congress’s funds to support research on HIV, autism, and obesity — a plan that also backs early career scientists.  Alabama Daily News
