- ➤ Investigators from Montgomery Fire/Rescue Department looked into a fire (reported just before 6:30 a.m.) at a vacant two-story hotel in the 5600 block of Carmichael Road (fire was quickly extinguished and no one was inside) with no injuries reported. WAKA 8
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Downtown Montgomery hosted the 8th Annual Hog Days of Summer this weekend as barbecue and music fans gathered at the Union Station Train Shed to enjoy live acts such as Neal Francis and Brent Cobb while supporting pediatric cancer research and local nonprofits—organizers added the event featured a kids zone with inflatables, arts and crafts, and games. - ➤ Last Saturday night, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival held its annual 'Over the Rainbow' fundraiser gala at Wynlakes Country Club. The event raised money for education programs and previewed upcoming season performances—featuring themed entertainment and an online auction with items like Auburn football tickets and vacation getaways. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Foster children in Alabama now receive a free book each month through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, with automatic enrollment by the state Department of Human Resources and the Department of Early Childhood Education. - ➤ High school teams played in AHSAA Week Zero games on August 21–22 with scores reported across many classes—local Montgomery Catholic won 32–6 against Saint James while other matchups, such as Maplesville 35 to Fyffe 6, added to the regional highlights.
