  • Montgomery Humane Society introduced Pets of the Week on August 25 with Moony, a 1-year-old black kitten, and Jasmine, a 1.5-year-old mixed dog—both available for adoption at the shelter.  WAKA 8

  • On Friday, August 22, Montgomery honored local entrepreneurs at the inaugural MGM Small Business Awards at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, where over 300 community leaders awarded 11 categories and gave six Storefront Improvement Grants of $15,000 each—boosting efforts to grow the city’s small business neighborhoods.  Montgomery Chamber

CRIME NEWS

  • Montgomery police identified 28-year-old Damorrea Dill-Driver—found with a fatal gunshot wound—after a shooting early Saturday morning on the 5000 block of Carmichael Road; they are investigating the case with no suspect or motive.  WSFA 12

  • The Alabama Department of Transportation announced there will be no temporary lane closures on interstates from Friday, Aug 29 at noon through Monday, Sept 1 at 11:59 p.m.—a measure designed to ease traffic congestion and improve safety for holiday travelers.  Elmore Autauga News
  • Today the U.S. Air Force Information Technology and Cyberpower 2025 conference is underway at the Montgomery Convention Center, drawing over 4,000 military and IT experts from more than 193 companies — the event focuses on digital readiness and efficiency and runs through Wednesday.  WAKA 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • An unvaccinated child under 5 in north Alabama was diagnosed with measles—the first case since 2002—after contracting the disease while traveling outside the United States. Health officials stated the child's siblings are healthy and urged parents to update vaccinations promptly.  AL.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama football will miss starting running back Jam Miller while right guard Jaeden Roberts remains in question ahead of the season opener against Florida State in Tallahassee. Coach Kalen DeBoer said Miller dislocated his collarbone in a scrimmage and is expected to return by the Georgia game while Geno VanDeMark will start if Roberts cannot play—setting the stage for Saturday's contest.  AL.com
