Country singer Ella Langley has spent 19 weeks at No. 1 with her hit 'Choosin’ Texas' (first topping the charts in February), marking a rare milestone for a country crossover in Alabama as the track returned to the top several times this summer.
The River Region Rainbow Chorus will perform tonight at NewSouth Bookstore.

🎓 Education
Troy University Montgomery is hosting the 2026 Alabama Higher Education Suicide Prevention Conference on Friday, Aug.
28 at 8:30 a.m. at its campus (231 Montgomery Street) to bring together professionals who will share practical strategies for supporting student mental health.
This August, Montgomery Christian School’s head advises parents to prepare children for kindergarten by focusing on social, emotional, and basic academic skills amid National Get Ready for Kindergarten Month.
Parents can foster independence with daily routines (like dressing and handling simple tasks).

The Alabama Dept. of Environmental Management awarded nearly $2.5 million in recycling grants to 20 community groups — funds for fiscal year 2027 announced at the Recycling Coalition’s Annual Conference in Gulf Shores will support renewed recycling efforts from Moundville to Birmingham.
🏛️ Government
Gov. Kay Ivey announced that Alabama's rural healthcare institutions will share 138 grants worth more than 144 million dollars under the Rural Health Transformation Program to improve care access and upgrade technologies.
The funds will support digital health systems, cybersecurity, and other projects across rural counties, with additional awards coming soon.
🏈 Sports
SEC football predictions see Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer winning his first bowl game at the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl while forecasts for Arkansas, Mississippi State, Texas and others promise a season of change.
The predictions, released ahead of Week 0, build excitement for a dynamic contest.
Alabama is close to finalizing its starting offensive line for the upcoming game week after testing a five-man lineup in recent scrimmages.
