CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 37-year-old Roderious Dortch was arrested for capital murder after he fired his .223 rifle from his Dodge Charger outside Suburban Studios on the 5000 block of Carmichael Road on Saturday—28-year-old Damorrea Dill-Driver was struck and pronounced dead on scene. AL.com
- ➤ Montgomery County District Attorney Azzie Oliver said that Cheslea Jackson from Prattville was charged with first-degree assault and firing a gun into an occupied vehicle in connection with the April 12th shooting along Atlanta Highway near Eastdale Mall that left Amy Dicks paralyzed—investigators expect more arrests as the investigation continues. - ➤ Chelsea Jackson, 21, of Prattville was charged with first-degree assault and two counts of discharging a firearm after she fired into a vehicle during a shootout on April 12th that left Amy Dicks paralyzed when bullets struck her car at a red light on Atlanta Highway near Eastdale Circle—police said the investigation is ongoing. - ➤ A Montgomery man, 29-year-old Cadarius Perry, was arrested in Auburn on Tuesday after police responded to a car burglary at the 1700 block of South College Street—his vehicle was chased and collided with officers near mile marker 41 on I-85 South while evidence linked him to two additional burglaries. - ➤ Lawmakers faced a cautionary briefing that the General Fund’s growth—fueled by interest on state deposits, high interest rates and pending federal COVID funds—is set to fall as those revenue sources drop, and they will soon prepare for tighter budgets with increased spending needs on Medicaid and other services. - ➤ Montgomery will host the 2025 ESPN Red Tails Classic on Sunday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m. at Cramton Bowl—featuring a matchup between Tuskegee University and Winston-Salem State University—while a Labor Day Grooves and Grub event will occur on Saturday, August 30 at 4:00 p.m. in the parking lot near Embassy Suites to honor HBCU heritage and the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen. - ➤ Montgomery is preparing for the 2025 ESPN Red Tails Classic football game at Cramton Bowl set for Sunday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m., where Tuskegee University will face Winston-Salem State University in a game honoring the Tuskegee Airmen. The city will also host a free pep rally at Riverwalk Amphitheater on Saturday, August 30 at 4:00 p.m.—with additional events including RV lot openings and road closures to support the festivities.
