CRIME NEWS

  • A federal judge ordered a new trial for death row inmate Christopher Barbour — convicted for the 1992 murder of Thelma Bishop Roberts — after DNA tests found another man's fluids on the victim's body, and the state will appeal the ruling while preparations begin within 90 days.  WAKA 8
  • MPD officers responded to a shooting on Tuesday at a local hospital near Mill Street—Hugh Street where they found a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound and are continuing their investigation with no arrests made yet.  WAKA 8
  • Nine people from Montgomery, Deatsville and Union Springs have been sentenced on federal charges for a cocaine trafficking conspiracy that brought drugs from Mexico into Alabama—federal officials said the investigation began in 2023.  WAKA 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fred Gray announced that his eldest daughter, Deborah Gray—managing director of the Tuskegee History Center—died on August 24 at age 68. Her funeral will be held today at 12 p.m. at Holt Street Church of Christ in Montgomery as the center closes in her honor.  WAKA 8
  • At Davis Theatre downtown Montgomery, the award-winning play Black Angels over Tuskegee will bring the story of the Tuskegee Airmen to life this weekend — with performances at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.  WAKA 8
