  • The Equal Justice Initiative concert with Branford Marsalis and Yo-Yo Ma is sold out for the October 11 event at the Peace and Justice Memorial Center on Caroline Street, but the ticket office said fans can check back on October 1 for extra tickets—giving hopeful ones a second chance to attend.  WAKA 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kay Ivey and House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter filed a lawsuit against the AHSAA after it ruled that CHOOSE Act funds count as financial aid—making student athletes ineligible to play varsity sports for a year when they transfer schools. Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth said he will pursue legislation to change the rule, a move critics say ignores legislative intent.  Alabama Daily News
  • Three Alabamians nominated for federal judge posts testified at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday to explain why they are fit for the bench. The nominees (Eddie LaCour, Bill Lewis and Hal Mooty) are expected to be confirmed with support from senators and Governor Ivey.  Alabama Daily News
