ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two children of R&B singer Angie Stone filed a lawsuit on September 5 against a trucking company and a truck manufacturer after a highway crash near Montgomery killed her when a van flipped and was struck by an 18-wheeler—passersby helped rescue survivors. WAKA 8
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Cordericus Thomas, 19, was charged with murder and capital murder for a July shootout that left two men dead near Real Cutz barber shop on Upper Wetumpka Road and on North California Street—he was booked into Montgomery County Detention Facility on Sept. 4. WSFA 12
- ➤ Jordan Brown—29-year-old Montgomery man—was charged with first-degree assault after he shot a friend several times early on August 23 at Suburban Studios hotel on Carmichael Road, with the victim treated at Baptist Medical Center South and Brown held on a $30,000 bond. WAKA 8
- ➤ A Montgomery man named Demarius Carter (29) was arrested on a first-degree robbery charge after he hit the mother of his child and stole her handgun inside a Dollar General on the 1000 block of Perry Hill Road just before 8 p.m. on August 27, and his girlfriend Lameisha Vanhuse-Grant is wanted for robbery. - ➤ Gov. Kay Ivey and House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter filed an injunction against the AHSAA today—responding to the association’s decision on CHOOSE Act transfers. WSFA 12
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, a state report with a negative tone spurred a State House conversation about the state's six mental health crisis centers that have received $175 million since 2021—officials said inconsistent data made it hard to judge their impact. ADMH officials defended the centers by citing 22,297 evaluations that helped keep people out of emergency rooms and jail, while lawmakers urged improvements and more consistent data collection for future progress.
