  • A family cat that residents thought lost in a June apartment fire has been safely returned to its owners in Montgomery (the fire started during a thunderstorm).  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery Fire/Rescue Department announced that the first newborn baby was safely surrendered to the Safe Haven Baby Box last month—officials say the Baby Box was installed in May to help mothers in crisis and has already accepted four infants statewide.  WAKA 8
  • Today, the Montgomery Biscuits—together with VOCAL and the Montgomery Police Department—host a night at the ballpark to honor crime victims and their families in Montgomery.  WSFA 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies arrested 20-year-old Donald Eugene Jackson, Jr. on kidnapping and domestic violence charges after responding at 11:00 p.m. Sunday to a domestic violence incident near Barnes Road and Meriwether Road where a female victim was assaulted, and they later located him heading into Chilton County—where he was taken into custody and the victim was safely rescued.  WAKA 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Arthur Orr is drafting a bill that will add extra notarization and legal steps in property title transactions to stop fraud and block unsolicited offers. The measure will be considered in the 2026 session and aims to shield homeowners from scams — the changes target issues that have affected vulnerable landowners.  Alabama Daily News
  • Today, the Alabama League of Municipalities celebrates the first anniversary of the Live Locally Alabama campaign—aiming to show the value of local services and encourage citizens to participate. Residents can take action by voting, attending council meetings, or preparing for runoff elections on September 23—each step helping to shape local government.  Elmore Autauga News
