CRIME NEWS

  • River Region United Way has set up an emergency relief fund to help the victims and families of a weekend mass shooting—Jannah Bailey, the agency's president, explained the fund in an interview with WSFA.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery City Council approved $15 million in funding Tuesday night to help keep Jackson Hospital open as part of a $50 million rescue package with $10 million from the county and $25 million from the state. City officials said all funds must be committed by the end of the month to keep the hospital making payroll—ensuring it continues to serve the River Region.  WAKA 8
  • Montgomery City Council suspended the downtown entertainment district indefinitely—following a mass shooting last weekend and growing safety concerns from local business owners during Tuesday's meeting at City Hall. The council will meet on October 17 to discuss the possibility of a citywide youth curfew.  WAKA 8
