- ➤ Montgomery police hosted a balloon release that honored shooting victims and united the community as residents continued to mourn the loss of lives from the tragedy + offered a peaceful tribute. WSFA 12
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ American Revival brought world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, award-winning actress Alfre Woodard and singer Valerie June to Davis Theatre on Sunday to celebrate art, film and community spirit. Today, the festival continues at Capri Theatre parking lot where local organizations host a Helpers Tent and a screening of Nicholas Ma’s documentary Leap of Faith will begin at 7 p.m. at the theatre. - ➤ The Old Autauga Historical Society is kicking off a series of celebrations for the United States turning 250 (next year) as it plans events to mark the milestone. Montgomery Police arrested a suspect in Saturday's mass shooting (further arrests may follow). WSFA 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Alabama State University announced a new 5,000-square-foot fitness center will be built on campus in partnership with the YMCA of Greater Montgomery to serve students, faculty and local residents. Officials will hold a press conference today to kick off the project—featuring youth leadership programs and community health workshops. AL.com
