COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montgomery organizations are coming together to organize a Stop the Violence convoy Saturday in response to 52 homicides and 46 assaults reported this year—participants will ride from the Court Square Fountain at 12 p.m. to deliver speeches at the Capitol steps by 2 p.m.  WSFA 12
  • City councilwomen Julie Beard and Marche Johnson will host a community expo at the Chisolm Community Center (next to the Montgomery Zoo) on October 18th.  The Montgomery Independent
  • Montgomery Zoo is hosting ZooBrews and Food Festival, where local brewers + food vendors will offer samples in a family-friendly setting.  The Montgomery Independent
  • After this month's mass shooting, downtown Montgomery advocates met to tackle violence and plan ways to support business + tourism.  WSFA 12

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eugene's Hot Chicken celebrated the opening of its new downtown restaurant on Wednesday — local residents enjoyed tasting the restaurant’s signature hot chicken.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today the Montgomery Choroale will perform Songs from the Stage at Montgomery Music of Fine Arts—followed by a second performance on October 19 at the same venue.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hyundai Power Transformers donated $20,000 to the Montgomery Police Department yesterday and said it is part of its yearly giving to support local services— the department will use the funds to upgrade technology and add more officers to better respond to crime.  WSFA 12
  • The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office announced that the popular Spooktacular event will be held at a new location this Halloween at 5:30 p.m. at Paterson Field (1215 Madison Drive) after its cancellation earlier this month.  WSFA 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Gift of Life Foundation held a special ceremony in Montgomery on Wednesday to honor those affected by pregnancy and infant loss—and help families process their grief. The event was part of October being recognized as Pregnancy & Infant Loss Month.  WSFA 12
