- ➤ Today the Prattville YMCA hosts its 12th annual Great Grits Cook-off at the Bradford branch, where dozens of teams will compete for the top prize + the Nitty Gritty 5k will run Saturday morning before the contest begins. All funds raised will benefit the Coach a Child Scholarship Fund + help ensure that no child is turned away. WSFA 12
- ➤ The Junior League of Montgomery is hosting its 37th annual Holiday Market today at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl to kick off the Christmas season—dozens of vendors sell clothes, gifts, arts, crafts, specialty foods and decorations while tickets cost $5 and children 10 and under enter for free. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A father and his 10-year-old son bailed from their burning boat on Lake Martin near Kowaliga on Thursday afternoon after engine trouble led to a fire—help from nearby boaters rescued them and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Patrol Division is now investigating the incident. WSFA 12

- ➤ Dave's Hot Chicken—the national chain known for its Nashville style hot chicken—opened its Montgomery location at EastChase on October 17, taking over the former BurgerFi site between Chili’s and Texas Roadhouse. Franchisee Deryl Pangelinan said the restaurant offers customers seven heat levels and a unique local atmosphere. WAKA 8

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Alabama leaders have partnered with Ed Farm and Apple on a $16M project called the Alabama Digital Education Network to build digital learning spaces in community centers, libraries & schools across rural areas like the Black Belt. The project will provide technology, broadband and training to help boost digital skills for students and workers. Alabama Daily News
- ➤ On Oct 17, 2025, the Lowe’s Foundation awarded a $740,000 Gable Grant to J.F. Ingram State Technical College — the state's only correctional education provider — to support new virtual reality training and expanded shop learning for Electrical Technology and Industrial Maintenance students. The grant will enable the college to boost hands-on programs and better prepare students for work. WAKA 8
