Community groups in Montgomery held a 'Stop the Violence' convoy to show that there is an alternative to deadly violence.
They drove through neighborhoods with high crime rates where residents welcomed their message — the groups will meet on November 1 to deliver holiday turkeys to at-risk areas.
Hundreds of people joined the nationwide 'No Kings' protest in downtown Montgomery (meeting at Riverfront Park on Commerce Street) on Saturday and marched to the Court Square fountain.
Speakers urged the crowd to raise their voices as they chanted and sang during the peaceful protest (one of nearly 20 events planned across the state).
Montgomery’s oldest bowling alley celebrated its 65th anniversary Saturday at Bama Lanes—families joined tournaments while enjoying snacks and prizes.
Owner Steve Lander noted that bowling brought the community together and organizers hoped to inspire new bowlers.
