- ➤ Guardian Credit Union held its 12th annual Great Grits Cookoff on Saturday at the Prattville YMCA—marking the event’s return—and the cookoff confirmed its 12-year tradition—continuing a local custom. WSFA 12
- ➤ The Prattville Autauga Humane Society held its Pet Palooza at Cooters Pond Park on Saturday—drawing a large crowd of pet lovers while offering contests, games and microchip services by Tuskegee University for 25 dollars; several dogs found new homes during the event. Elmore Autauga News
- ➤ On October 19th, the Alabama Resisters of Indivisible and Montgomery 50501 Freedom Fighters held a 'No Kings' protest and march in Montgomery — the groups came together as local citizens to voice their concerns. WSFA 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hundreds of state and community leaders met on October 17 in Birmingham at the A+ Opportunity Summit to review Alabama’s quick recovery from the pandemic + discuss ways to boost student learning. The event honored House Education Budget Chairman Danny Garrett and Senate Education Budget Chairman Arthur Orr + celebrated the RAISE Act that will add $550 million over the next three years to public school funding.
