COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Jeeps and Treats event at Texas Roadhouse in Prattville on October 20th drew over 20 jeeps from Alabama Jeep Outfitters, Prattvegas Jeepers, and Bama Jeeperz—guests enjoyed trick-or-treating, games, and prizes to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. Danielle Sides from Alabama Jeep Outfitters said the event was a success and they plan to make it an annual fundraiser while continuing monthly Jeep Nights.  Elmore Autauga News
  • The 59th annual Arts and Craft Fair will take place November 1 in Pike Road—families may explore vendor stands and enjoy fall fun.  WSFA 12

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Winn-Dixie will sell 32 stores and eight Harvey’s Supermarkets in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi — leaving only a few stores in south Georgia — as its parent company rebrands as The Winn-Dixie Company and shifts its focus to its core markets in Florida and south Georgia. The store closures will occur in the coming months.  WSFA 12
  • Chris’ Famous Hotdogs—a 108-year-old downtown staple—is under new management as longtime patrons Morris and Leslie Capp take over and begin refurbishing the restaurant. The renovations will take a few weeks while the owners ensure that the classic menu remains unchanged.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Montgomery Symphony Orchestra will host a special concert for Harry Potter fans on October 24th — and again on October 26th.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery officials held a town hall meeting tonight in District 2 where police, fire, inspections, and emergency management leaders updated residents on public safety and extra patrol efforts—over 50 felony arrests in the past 30 days were reported. City leaders said more officers are being hired and urged residents to join the Citizens Police Academy for a closer look at how safety is maintained.  WSFA 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • The DEA and partners will host the biannual Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—an effort to help residents safely dispose of expired or unwanted medications—Dr. Mark LeQuire from the Medical Association says proper disposal may reduce the risk of addiction and overdose.  WSFA 12
  • Today, the Alabama Department of Public Health announced that young children will continue receiving new books—handed out at pediatric visits—under the Reach Out and Read initiative.  WSFA 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carver High cancelled the football game with Saraland set for October 30 due to scheduling adjustments—while Saraland officials say the cancellation was made solely by Carver, sparking local controversy.  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery United FC has named Guilherme Soares as head coach and director of coaching for the Alabama FC South Youth Club ahead of the 2026 USL League Two season. He will start his role on November 17 and lead the team as they prepare for their season kickoff in May.  WAKA 8
