COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pike Road will host its annual Veterans Appreciation Ceremony in November—continuing its tradition of honoring military veterans.  WSFA 12
  • The YMCA will host a fall festival at Camp Chandler in Wetumpka on Oct. 25 with families invited to join the event.  WSFA 12
  • Today, local organizations CHANGE, TyTalks, and Young Men On A Mission are hosting a coat drive and trunk or treat event—families can donate coats and enjoy festive activities.  WSFA 12
  • Longtime WSFA 12 News anchor Kim Hendrix recalled her work behind the desk and off-camera during the station’s 70th anniversary program on October 22nd—her remarks highlighted decades of service.   WSFA 12

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Renfroe’s Market will open its 9th store in Eufaula, taking over the former Winn-Dixie location—scheduled to open in December. The family-owned chain from Montgomery will offer fresh meat, produce, deli items, and grocery staples.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Trenholm State Community College will host its 2nd annual Trunk or Treat and Career Fair on October 29th—families can enjoy festive activities and students can explore future career options.  WSFA 12
  • The public can review proposed K-12 social studies and arts textbooks at libraries statewide until November 12 while publishers offer both printed books and QR codes for online access. People must submit comments in advance before the board votes on November 13—some QR codes do not work as expected—so approved textbooks will be ready for school when classes start for 2026-27.  Alabama Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its October 21 meeting, the Montgomery County Commission discussed options to fund Jackson Hospital—bringing the county one step closer to a funding agreement.  The Montgomery Independent

HEALTH NEWS

  • The City of Montgomery’s Parks and Recreation Department held a breast cancer awareness walk at Oak Park this morning to honor survivors and support those fighting breast cancer during October. Participants wore pink and joined a special balloon release—an event that brought the community together around the cause.  WAKA 8
  • The Alabama Department of Public Health is running a campaign during SIDS Awareness Month that promotes the ABC’s safe sleep message for infants—using high school athletes in its Clear the Crib challenge to share sleep safety tips.  WSFA 12
