COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery Police advise families to use well-lit streets and wear reflective gear as Halloween may bring safety risks for children. Authorities will join Sheriff Cunningham at the free Halloween Spooktacular at Garrett Coliseum and Trick-or-Treat with the Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium to offer safer fun for everyone. WSFA 12
- ➤ Red Ribbon Week is underway as the nation's oldest campaign against drug abuse and the Council on Substance Abuse has opened a Teen Community Center in Montgomery—aimed at educating local youth about drug prevention. The campaign will continue throughout the week to strengthen community awareness on this issue. WSFA 12
- ➤ The Montgomery Biscuits will host a Trick-or-Treat event today at Riverwalk Stadium. WSFA 12
- ➤ St. James School senior students helped pack boxes at Heart of Alabama Food Bank—responding to a surge in need caused by an ongoing government shutdown that will cut SNAP benefits for over 750,000 people. The food bank, which serves 35 counties—doubling its support for local families—has increased its efforts to meet rising community demand ahead of Nov. 1. WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery Whitewater and Birmingham-based Lakeshore Foundation have partnered to host Everyone Can Ride, an adaptive youth cycling event for children 12 and under that features a friendly half-mile race. The event will take place on Nov. 8 at 9 a.m. at Montgomery Whitewater—where adaptive cycles will be provided—for children of all abilities. WSFA 12

- ➤ WSFA 12 marked its 70th anniversary in a segment aired yesterday as Chief Photographer Andre Morgan and Operations Manager Jeff Harrison reflected on decades of service—discussing changes in local journalism and notable stories they covered over the years. WSFA 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Reginald Marable, Montgomery’s Senior Housing Director, told WSFA that the city will host a free home buying informational session—aimed at guiding local buyers on available assistance options. WSFA 12
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, October 29th, UAB Street Psychiatry and Wesley Church teamed up in northwest Montgomery—where temperatures dipped into the 40s—to serve hot burgers and demonstrate Narcan use as doctors distributed 72 boxes to help reduce overdose deaths. The event raised health concerns and highlighted growing food insecurity with SNAP benefits set to end soon—prompting community calls for action. WAKA 8
