COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A work day is planned for this weekend at the old Bellingrath Community Center—an effort to restore a site that was once a beloved part of the community. The restoration will update the facility to serve local residents in the future. WSFA 12
- ➤ Students at St. James School in Montgomery held their annual Community Day yesterday when about 25 seniors volunteered at Heart of Alabama Food Bank to pack 400 boxes and other students helped at eight local sites. They also wrote letters to veterans and made goody bags for nursing home residents — all in an effort to support the community. WAKA 8
- ➤ The Bellingrath Community Center, once a safe haven for local families, now needs major repairs to keep serving Montgomery residents. Officials said a work day to restore the center is planned this weekend—aiming to preserve its legacy for the community. WSFA 12
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Piggly Wiggly Food for Less announced plans to expand in the Southeast by opening new stores in Montgomery and Wetumpka—bringing fresh groceries and a customer-first approach to local families. The expansion will create over 400 jobs across five communities and include renovations to update the store’s familiar look. WSFA 12

- ➤ After a one-year hiatus, the 59th Annual Pike Road Arts & Crafts Fair will take place on Saturday, November 1 at the Historic Marks House on Old Carter Hill Road and run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.—vendors, face painting, a petting zoo, games, food, and visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus will keep the community busy. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Alabama State University received a $38 million donation from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott on October 30—its largest gift in 158 years—and President Dr. Quinton Ross, Jr. said the funds will improve the school’s educational programs. WAKA 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Town of Pike Road will honor veterans on November 2 at the Veterans Memorial at 4902 Pike Road—where the 14th Annual Veterans Appreciation Ceremony will include a Veterans Walk of Honor and the dedication of new commemorative bricks—and the Capitol Sounds Concert Band will perform patriotic music at 1:30 p.m. before the ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m. WAKA 8
- ➤ The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is hosting its annual Halloween Spooktacular today, and Sergeant Marshawn Garner appeared on WSFA to explain the event details. WSFA 12
- ➤ Pike Road leaders held an open house at Town Hall yesterday — the meetings ran from 11-2 and 3:30-6:30 — to share plans and gather feedback on the town's growth. WAKA 8
- ➤ The City of Montgomery released a list of local sites offering food as federal SNAP benefits will end on Saturday, November 1 — churches, nonprofits, and food banks across the city are providing groceries, meals, and household essentials for residents in need. WAKA 8
