- ➤ The Montgomery Biscuits hosted their 8th Annual Ballpark Trick or Treat at Riverwalk Stadium on Oct 30, where children dressed in costumes, received candy from over 30 local organizations—families enjoyed hay rides and donated canned goods supported the Heart of Alabama Food Bank. WAKA 8
- ➤ The Kiwanis Club of Pike Road is selling $15 ornaments that show Pinkston’s Grocery—once run by Barnett Pinkston from 1945 until his death in 1990 at the corner of Vaughn and Pike roads. The ornaments, made by local artist Bruce Brannen, will benefit the club’s scholarship program for Pike Road high school seniors. WAKA 8

- ➤ Tomorrow at 2 a.m., clocks will fall back as daylight saving time ends, shifting more light to the morning until mid-February—47% of those polled oppose the change while 56% favor keeping daylight saving time year-round; local lawmakers say any move to adopt it permanently will require Congressional approval. - ➤ State-owned items will go for auction today at 7:30 a.m. as the Surplus Property Division of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs accepts bids online until November 9, with public inspections held at the Distribution Center at 4590 Mobile Highway from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.—Nov. 5 to Nov. 7. - ➤ SNAP benefits will lapse today for about 752,000 Alabama residents as the government shutdown stops food aid, leaving 331,000 children without new support.
