COMMUNITY NEWS

  • First United Methodist Church of Montgomery is preparing to host its annual bazaar — the event will be held at the church and is part of a longstanding community tradition.  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery Braves will host a Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway on November 15. Locals will receive a free turkey through the event ahead of the holiday.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jeanna “Gia” Barnes from Troy competed on Food Network’s Holiday Baking Championship — a season that aired Monday, Nov. 3 with 12 bakers split into Naughty and Nice teams vying for a $25,000 prize and a magazine feature — and she became the first Alabama competitor on the show.  WSFA 12
  • Pike Road held its 59th annual Arts & Crafts Fair with 180 vendors, and the event maintained its long history of drawing local visitors—continuing a cherished community tradition.  WSFA 12
  • The Montgomery Area Business Committee for the Arts is closing after 46 years of linking local businesses with art. Founded in 1979 by Wynton 'Red' Blount, the group grew its annual luncheon from 150 to over 750 attendees—highlighting its role in public art projects and community awards.  WSFA 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Alabama Kidney Foundation will host a free kidney education conference for patients, families and caregivers on Sunday, November 9 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the RSA Activity Center on Dexter Avenue—experts will discuss kidney transplants, diet, insurance and mental health.  WAKA 8
  • Jackson Hospital announced a new board of trustees and named John Quinlivan as CEO on November 3 to lead its Chapter 11 bankruptcy recovery. The board—which took over on October 31—will focus on restructuring the hospital amid major repair needs and financial pressures while local government pledges aim to support its recovery.  WAKA 8

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Montgomery Humane Society featured Pets of the Week on November 3 by showcasing Melody, a 2-month-old kitten bonded with her twin, and Morty, a 2 1/2-year-old Husky who had been the shelter's longest resident since February—he needs an active family.  WAKA 8
