COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Montgomery Warming Center is calling for local volunteers starting this month—through March to help with its operations. WSFA 12
- ➤ This weekend, several holiday events will take place across the River Region— a Christmas Craft Show in Wetumpka, Christmas on the Square in Pike Road, and a holiday production of Mistletoe by the Alabama Dance Theatre. Additional events include a Veterans Day Concert in Tuskegee, a fair in Selma, a special YMCA wings event in Montgomery, and an inclusive cycling ride at Montgomery Whitewater. WAKA 8
- ➤ The Heart of Alabama Food Bank held its first Community Harvest Awards to honor volunteers, donors — and agencies that help feed families, recognizing their vital role in fighting food insecurity. WSFA 12
- ➤ City leaders are planning the 'Neighbors & Flavors' event to unite Montgomery by sharing meals & fostering neighborly ties. The event aims to strengthen the community one meal, one neighbor, one community at a time. WSFA 12
- ➤ Crossroads Community Church in Elmore partnered with the Heart of Alabama Food Bank—hosting a mobile food pantry that fed dozens and provided food to local families. The event helped address local food needs. WSFA 12
- ➤ The City of Montgomery and the Montgomery Military and Veteran Commission will host the annual Veterans Day Parade on November 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.—road closures will affect local routes while volunteers can sign up to help. The Montgomery Independent
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Museum of Alabama reopened after months of renovations and now features the new Alabama Military Stories gallery that highlights the personal journeys of service members — the upgrades also include a renovated children’s gallery and a lobby ceiling reimagined with a colorful sculpture inspired by Gee’s Bend quilters. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Marbury resident Erica Endress, who has worked for 22 years as a Correctional Records Supervisor for Men’s Services, earned the Large Business Employee of the Year Award at Monday’s Alabama Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities Awards ceremony (held at the Department of Archives and History). She said nothing can stop you as she urged others with disabilities to keep working toward their goals after an accident left her using a wheelchair. Elmore Autauga News
- ➤ The Montgomery Police Department held the graduation of Class 2025 B/2 on November 5th for 25 new officers—marking a big step in their law enforcement careers. They finished a tough training program and are now ready to serve the community. The Montgomery Independent
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Alabama Department of Environmental Management finished voluntary testing of lead levels in drinking water at over 1,100 schools and childcare facilities to help protect children’s health (EPA funds supported the program). The tests were done before new federal rules require regular sampling from public water systems. WSFA 12
