COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The 37th annual Families of the Year ceremony was held in Montgomery to honor families with strong bonds and community love (celebrating deep ties) and recognized local contributions (showing support for neighbors). WSFA 12
- ➤ Frazer Church in Montgomery hosted a ceremony this weekend to thank veterans for their service. Keynote speaker Bruce Pearl and Group Minister Kelly Slover stressed the need for community support through mentorship and volunteer work—an effort they hope becomes a yearly tradition. WSFA 12
- ➤ Charles Lee from That's My Child told WSFA that the foundation will hold a Golf Course Fundraiser on November 19th—he explained the event will raise support for its programs. WSFA 12

Meanwhile, YMCA Bradford Branch plans a Santa Drop on November 15th and Charles Lee from That's My Child Foundation will hold a Golf Course Fundraiser on November 19th — Chef Elizabeth Cummings also shared her Land and Sea Gumbo recipe at Southern Union State Community College Kitchen. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ AAA Alabama is giving away free steering wheel locks to eligible Hyundai and Kia owners with 2011—2022 models to deter rising car thefts, and the event will run on Thursday, November 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Montgomery office at 6901 Vaughn Road and at other state locations. WAKA 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A veteran teacher who coaches sports and math is honored as this week’s Class Act Award winner. He has spent many years guiding students in both the classroom and on the field. WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery Public School is hosting a magnet schools information session for families interested in learning about available magnet programs—no details on date, time, or location have been provided. WSFA 12
- ➤ On November 6, Senator Clyde Chambliss visited Central Alabama Community College in Prattville and presented a contribution to fund programs that support student education and workforce training — the donation will help expand opportunities across its campuses in Alexander City, Childersburg, Prattville, and Talladega. - ➤ City officials opened a temporary warming shelter at the Crump Center (1751 Cong W L Dickinson Drive) on Monday night to help people who are unhoused or without enough heating as temperatures fell below freezing.
