COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Mid-Alabama Coalition for the Homeless launched its annual blanket drive, asking residents to donate blankets+coats and other warm items to help those living in shelters and on the streets as winter nears.  WSFA 12
  • Local parades and performances are set for the weekend—beginning today and continuing through November 23. Community groups and local artists organize family-friendly events across town.  WSFA 12
  • Action 8 has partnered with the Shoppes at Eastchase to present its annual Magical Christmas Toy Drive for the Salvation Army in Montgomery. From now until December 10, new and unwrapped toys are being collected at the Shoppes at Eastchase—located left of Books-a-Million—to help local families have a joyful holiday.  WAKA 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • With America’s 250th birthday approaching next year, local historians examined the role Alabama played in shaping the nation’s past. Meanwhile, a Montgomery business owner gained viral attention for his holiday good deeds—sparking widespread praise among residents.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • An event was held to honor Harper Councill Trenholm—an influential figure in Alabama State University's history—that recognized his lasting contributions to the institution.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The two-year dispute over book placement at Fairhope Library is under review at an Alabama Public Library Services board meeting today at 1 p.m. in Montgomery—if the library does not meet state rules, $44,000 in funding for fiscal 2026 remains at risk.  AL.com
  • Officials held a ribbon cutting for a new storm shelter at the Little Texas Volunteer Fire Department—The facility will offer a safe space during severe weather for both residents and department personnel.  WSFA 12

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Montgomery renters still face climbing rents while national rates fall; experts say investor purchases have driven prices up and strained family budgets. Stuart Norton from the ACRE and broker LaTarsha Shine noted that many locals are now weighing whether buying a home might be a better option—criteria for renting and buying remain very similar.  WSFA 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • The ASF Foundation has opened registration for the Dinklebells 3 pickleball tournament — scheduled for December 13th and 14th at the 17 Springs Sports Complex in Millbrook — where athletes from across Alabama will compete in Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles with a $50 fee due by December 1.  Elmore Autauga News
