COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Community members are invited to join a series of events honoring the 70th anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott that will be held December 1 to 6 in Montgomery. Organized by the Southern Youth Leadership Development Institute, the commemorations will feature worldwide bell tolling, an intergenerational conversation, a private family reunion, a morning service and a youth summit with a gala honoring civil rights legacies. - ➤ The Heart of Alabama Food Bank is asking Montgomery residents to donate extra food items this holiday season to help neighbors in need. It supports local seniors and families and welcomes contributions at drop-off centers—standing with groups like Meals on Wheels and the Mid-Alabama Coalition for the Homeless. WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery city officials cut the ribbon on a new pickleball complex at Dean Fain Park, marking the fifth site in the city. The project began in early March and is part of a plan to expand recreational options for residents — a growing commitment to community connections. WSFA 12
- ➤ Chandler’s Smokehouse in Montgomery will host its third annual community dinner ahead of Thanksgiving—its partnership with Citizens That Care has been set to support local residents. WSFA 12

- ➤ Alabama State hosted the Turkey Day Classic Gospel Explosion on November 23 with music and fellowship that kicked off the holiday festivities. WSFA 12
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Doctors announced a new blood test called Shield for colon cancer screening that is less invasive than traditional colonoscopies—offering results in about two weeks and now available in Alabama with hundreds of doctors providing the option. The test, approved by the FDA, is recommended for patients starting at age 45. WSFA 12

- ➤ Montgomery Humane Society introduced its Pets of the Week featuring Jack, Jill, and Dolly—Jack and Jill are identical 3‑month‑old kittens that must be adopted together and Dolly is an almost 4‑year‑old timid Retriever mix who is potty-trained—available for adoption or fostering at the Society. - ➤ On Saturday, Alabama State beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 44-13 as Te’Sean Smoot threw for 271 yards and four touchdowns, joining the 1935 squad as the only Hornets with nine wins — the team will face Tuskegee in a nonconference game next. WAKA 8
- ➤ The 2025 Turkey Day Classic festivities kicked off with Sunday's Gospel Explosion and Monday’s conversation, book signing, coaches show and comedy event hosted by Alabama State University.
