COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montgomery's Mercy House hosted a Thanksgiving meal where people of all ages helped serve a feast fit for a king. The community gathered to share the event plus continue a tradition of warm support during the holiday season.  WSFA 12
  • Move Montgomery hosted its 5th Annual Gobble Wobble 5K on Friday—drawing local runners in a community-run event that celebrated the Thanksgiving spirit.  WSFA 12
  • National Action Network Montgomery handed out Thanksgiving dinners to those without a hot meal during the holiday—offering vital support to community members in need. The event reached local residents who might not have otherwise received a warm meal.  WSFA 12
  • Feeding the Multitudes Ministry and Chappy's Deli partnered for 28 years to serve Thanksgiving meals to Montgomery residents. The initiative provided hot meals—bringing relief to those in need during the holiday.  WSFA 12

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Montgomery shoppers kicked off the holiday season on Black Friday at the Shoppes at Eastchase where crowds gathered despite some higher prices compared to past years — many shoppers said the deals made the extra cost worthwhile. The bustling scene marked the start of a shopping tradition with lively activity throughout the day.  WSFA 12
  • Alabama retailers must follow a new state law starting Jan. 1, 2026 that sets rules for selling hemp products, including a limit of 10 mg THC per serving and age restrictions—while a federal ban on products with over 0.4 mg THC will take effect on Nov. 13, 2026. More than 100 grocery stores plan to apply for licenses so they can continue selling these products until federal guidelines are enforced.  Alabama Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Many shoppers worked off their Thanksgiving meals on Black Friday by visiting local stores with early openings and big sales; they said the busy day was fun and helped save money plus added a festive touch to the start of the holiday season.  WAKA 8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology watched birds at 53 feeder sites across Alabama from Nov 8 to Nov 21 and found Northern Cardinals visited 89% of sites, with Carolina Chickadees and Carolina Wrens also common+ at feeders. The project data helps track trends in bird populations.  AL.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school football playoff semifinal scores were released—Wadley beat Addison 22—14, Maplesville defeated Leroy 59—18, Mars Hill Bible won 48—16 over Piedmont, and Montgomery Catholic overcame Brewbaker Tech 25—12 in flag football. Teams will advance to the Super 7 State Championships at Protective Stadium from Dec. 3 to Dec. 5.  WAKA 8
  • Alabama State earned its first 10-win season since 2004 with a 58-21 win over Tuskegee but was left out of the FCS playoffs despite finishing 10-2 with the top offense in the conference. Head coach Eddie Robinson questioned the decision—saying the committee may not fairly evaluate SWAC teams and he expects future selections to better reflect their strength.  WAKA 8
