GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After today's meeting, Alabama Power announced its retail rates will not increase until 2027—though customers' bills may still change based on their electricity use. The company said it will absorb costs from its new facility rather than passing them on to customers.  AL.com
  • RSA chief David Bronner warned lawmakers that tough education funding choices lie ahead when the Legislature meets Jan. 13 because the Public Education Employees' Health Insurance Plan is asking for a $380 million increase for 2027 to cover rising costs for 350,000 education workers, dependents and retirees — a move that may hurt public schools. He noted that tax cuts and a new program using taxpayer funds for private schools add extra pressure on the state budget.  AL.com
