COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers in Montgomery packed more than 575 holiday bags with food and hygiene items for Meals on Wheels clients. Children helped decorate the bags (a special touch from local schools and churches) to spread cheer among seniors as the non-profit prepares to restart its hot meals program in January.  WAKA 8
  • Millbrook will host its Spirit of Christmas Parade on Saturday as Santa's workshop moves from the North Pole for the weekend, inviting community members to join the seasonal celebration.  WSFA 12
  • WSFA’s annual 12's Day of Giving event will take place tomorrow to benefit the Heart of Alabama Food Bank and invite community members to support the local food drive.  WSFA 12
  • Today, a Christmas parade will light up Dexter Avenue at 6 p.m., a 90s tour will rock Wind Creek Saturday at 7 p.m., and The Nutcracker will run Sunday at Montgomery Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m. Plus a parade in Prattville, a zoo lights festival, and 5K at Whitewater.  WSFA 12
  • The Junior League of Montgomery partnered with HandsOn River Region to fill 84 baskets with essentials for families at Saint James School on Dec. 9, helping ease household expenses during the holiday season (celebrating the League’s 100th year).  Montgomery Chamber
  • Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama team members donated bicycles, toys, and funds to Marine Corps Toys for Tots on Thursday, Dec. 11, at their administration building (700 Hyundai Boulevard). This 21st annual drive included contributions from every area of the plant, with Marine Corps representatives picking up gifts for local children.  Montgomery Chamber

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery Public Schools and Trenholm State Community College announced a new instructional hub at Air Base Boulevard during Thursday’s press conference with community leaders; the hub will offer dual enrollment and career tech courses starting fall 2026 while the County Board votes tonight to acquire the campus (boosting student readiness).  WSFA 12
  • At Enterprise State Community College, the ACCS board approved three new associate degrees and raised the fee from $10 to $20 per credit hour for fall 2026 — Calhoun Community College will offer workforce training for $6 billion Eli Lilly project, with the next meeting set for Jan. 14 in Montgomery.  Alabama Daily News
