COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WSFA's 12's Day of Giving is set to run today at Renfroe's Market (Eastchase Parkway) from 5 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will provide free gifts for children in need.  WSFA 12
  • Action 8's Magical Christmas Toy Drive ended a successful year as the Shoppes at EastChase vault was emptied today, and donated toys were loaded onto a truck for the Salvation Army to distribute to over 1,200 families for Christmas (with support from local partners).  WAKA 8
  • The Salvation Army Montgomery will expand its Red Kettle Campaign this Christmas to aid neighbors facing financial and emotional challenges in the River Region. The initiative invites community members to give with joy and support local families.  The Montgomery Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Aldi opened its third store in Montgomery at Country Club Shopping Center on Carter Hill Road and Narrow Lane Road by taking over the former Winn-Dixie location. This expansion follows similar moves in Selma and Auburn, replacing a longtime grocery fixture.  WAKA 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Annual Capital City Christmas Parade aired live on WSFA last night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and featured floats, bands, and festive cheer for local residents.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Trenholm State Community College and Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) announced a partnership to expand dual enrollment for high school students. The program will let learners earn college credit while they complete high school courses.  The Montgomery Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission approved licenses for three dispensaries (a key step for the program) with medical marijuana set to be available in spring. The commission will soon review a fourth application and certify physicians to build a patient registry.  Alabama Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Dec. 12, Alabama State Troopers visited Baptist Medical Center East with stuffed trooper bears provided by their association to bring a Christmas surprise to children, joined by Santa (and the Grinch) to brighten the holiday for those spending it in the hospital.  WAKA 8
