COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New and gently used coats collected by WSFA 12 News, Bryan Jewelry and Jim Massey’s Cleaners are being delivered Thursday morning to the Salvation Army’s Montgomery office to help those in need. The campaign has been sponsored by WSFA 12 News since 2012 and will keep local residents warm.  WSFA 12
  • Holley Amburn, a Pike Road Intermediate School student, launched her Holley Jolly Stocking Project yesterday to collect donations for 100 food + hygiene bags for Friendship Mission as its shelters reached capacity; she and her mother gathered thoughtfully chosen supplies for those in need.  WAKA 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Dec. 18, MAX Credit Union was named one of forty Best Companies to Work For in Alabama for the 12th consecutive year. The credit union earned the honor by investing in competitive benefits, ongoing training and community partnerships.  Montgomery Chamber

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three nursing students participated in the inaugural nurse apprentice signing day at Faulkner University, where local providers will soon mentor them as they begin training for future careers.  WSFA 12
  • Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law reported record enrollment with overall numbers rising 20% to 411 and 167 first-year students, a nearly 50% increase. The law school noted that Black or African American enrollment grew to 18% — the largest gain in Alabama among ABA-approved schools.  WAKA 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Alabama is raising an extra U.S. Space Force flag at rest stops and welcome centers over the next week to mark the branch’s 6th anniversary and show statewide support. The governor said the flag honors the men and women tasked with defending the nation.  WSFA 12
  • Crews began cleaning up rubble on the old Country Inn and Suites site on Carmichael Road today, and the process is expected to take up to 30 days due to pending litigation that delayed previous efforts after multiple fire incidents.  WSFA 12
  • Today, the Montgomery County Commission announced a grant dedicated to swift water rescue training — an effort to enhance local emergency response.  WSFA 12
  • The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency launches its 12 Days of Safety campaign on Sunday to share daily safe-driving tips for holiday travel until Jan. 1, covering topics like weather checks and avoiding impaired driving (the initiative offers practical advice for safe celebrations).  WSFA 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Oklahoma and Alabama are set to play today in a playoff game that will decide who advances to the Rose Bowl against No. 1 seed Indiana (their third meeting in 13 months), with Oklahoma having won both previous contests in a close rivalry.  Alabama Daily News
