COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A group of young men in Montgomery is hosting a Christmas giveaway to make holiday wishes come true — details on the time and location will be announced soon.  WSFA 12
  • The annual Ballin' n Boots black tie fundraiser event was held in Montgomery to empower local youth. Organizers said the evening brought community leaders together to raise funds and support youth programs.  WSFA 12
  • Today, Bhikkhu Pannakara, Rep. Kenyatte Hassell and Mayor Steven Reed lead a Walk for Peace starting at 7:45 a.m. at the Train Shed (210 Water Street), with stops at the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, Court Street Fountain, City Hall steps and a group photo at the State Capitol.  Montgomery Chamber

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A deadly fire at Woodley Terrace Apartments killed an eight-year-old boy and left two others in critical condition, raising safety concerns in the community.  WSFA 12

  • The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts will host the Ujima Kwanzaa program on Sunday, Dec. 28, inviting community members to celebrate Kwanzaa with art and culture.  WSFA 12

  • Today at Billingsley School, teacher Taylor Calloway is busy decking the halls and teaching holiday lessons, lighting up the classroom with Christmas magic + festive cheer.  WSFA 12

  • Montgomery Fire Rescue reported a second newborn boy was surrendered via the Safe Haven Baby Box at fire station 10 about two weeks ago and he was taken to Baptist Medical Center South for evaluation (the delayed announcement protected the mother’s privacy).  WAKA 8
  • Families facing holiday shopping stress are encouraged by Dr. Lewis-Yarbrough from Avondale & Associates to set budgets and focus on connection to ease financial pressure. Experts advise slowing down, having honest talks and cherishing family memories during this season.  WSFA 12
