Mercy House presented plans Tuesday to convert its building and five-acre lot on West Montgomery into a homeless shelter called The Haven — offering 82 beds and resources to help residents secure jobs and housing within 90 days.

The new Alabama Veterans Resource Center opened along Dexter Avenue to offer services for local veterans.

The center is ready to provide resources to those in downtown Montgomery.

A Black History Month art exhibit honors local Black heritage and is on display at the Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library downtown.

The show features paintings, photos, sculptures and other visual art and will continue through the end of February.

Ashley Johnson, founder of Pivot Path, has been selected as Alabama’s State Advocate for Adult Education Fellowship.
